You won’t find a profession more connected to community than real estate practitioners. It’s their business to understand the health and wellbeing of the neighbourhoods they work in. And when it comes to giving back, they look for ways to help those communities thrive.
To honour their 66,000 members’ collective values, the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board (TRREB) donates around $1 million to approximately 100 charities that elevate communities every year. Eva’s has been one of their recipients since 2010.
“Realtors understand better than most the value of having a safe and secure place to live – and how it can affect every facet of a person’s life. A lot of our charitable donations focus on shelter and shelter-based initiatives,” said TRREB President Kevin Crigger.
Over the last 40 years, the Ontario Realtors Care Foundation has donated around $16 million to shelter-based charities. Eva’s Initiatives for Homeless Youth has always been an obvious fit.
“We appreciate that Eva’s takes a holistic approach to their clients. While shelter is the key piece, the organization also looks at how to move youth forward in a positive way with Family Reconnect, harm reduction, and training and employment programs,” said Kevin.
“We can see that youth ultimately end up in a better place having been served by Eva’s.”
It’s always a challenge for the TRREB committee to choose the charities they support, but it’s that connection to community that helps direct their choices.
“Our giving goal is to make long-term impacts in the communities in which we work and ensure that those who face great challenges are given the tools they need to succeed. We believe there’s incredible potential in every kid. It’s important to us to partner with charities that can support youth in a sustainable and impactful way,” said Kevin.
“The incredible part of organizations like Eva’s is that the impact they have can be life-long.”
With supporters like TRREB, youth are building brighter futures.
